Wow,dans un mois, je serais à Salt Lake City !

Au menu : Des réunions de travail, des retrouvailles avec des vieux amis, des rencontres avec de nouvelles personnes, ma mission d’ambassdrice RootsTech qui va m’occuper en gros de 6h du mat’ ( et oui, certaines réunions commencent tôt et si les soirées ne finissent pas très tard, il est important de se reposer et prendre des forces 🙂 )

Mais aussi…des recherches à la plus grande bibliothèque de généalogie du monde !

( C’est là ! )

Et VOUS pouvez m’y commander des recherches, que ce soit dans les microfilms ( la location mondiale a été supprimée en attendant des digitalisations des bobines ) mais aussi dans les nombreux ouvrages de référence

Je prends les commandes jusqu’au 10 février 2018 étant donné que certaines copies de registres doivent être demandée à l’avance ( Il y a cinq niveaux à la bibliothèque mais tout ne s’y trouve pas en libre-accès)

Mais combien ca coûte ? 

Une recherche à l’heure vous en coûtera 25 euros. Une somme peut-être mais celle-ci débloquera peut-être vos recherches et ca, ca n’a pas de prix ! 😉

 

 

 

 

FamilySearch’s New Web Tool Makes Ancestry Records Easier to Find!

« FamilySearch International, a leader in historical records preservation, has launched its new web-based indexing tool. Indexing is a technology used to make the world’s historical records freely searchable online for family history research. The new program makes it easier for online volunteers to participate using web-enabled computers, laptops, or tablets, and enables FamilySearch to expedite its online publishing of completed indexes.

New features enable volunteers to work on tablets, modify the layout of their dashboard based on personal preferences, set and track individual goals, and create groups with friends or others interested in working on a common project.

Global nonprofit FamilySearch digitally preserves billions of historical records online to help individuals with their family history research. It has published billions of images of historic records from all over the world online. Researchers can find the record images in FamilySearch’s Catalog or Historic Records Collections online. But searching through billions of images online in search of one’s elusive ancestors is not fun for the average person. They want to type in an ancestor’s name and known context, press Enter, and voilà, see highly matched results from their search query.

« That requires an index, » said Jim Ericson, marketing manager for FamilySearch Indexing. « Until the records are indexed online, they can only be discovered by browsing through often enormous collections of digital images. With a digital index, researchers can locate records in seconds by using a person’s name and other helpful information as search terms. A searchable index saves researchers time and effort by returning search results from the entire collection in a matter of seconds. »

Ericson says the new web-based indexing platform will enable more volunteers to participate worldwide and increase the rate at which FamilySearch can make indexed records accessible online. « It is a straight-forward experience that no longer requires people to download software, » said Ericson.

Using the new tool enables volunteer indexers to help make it possible for millions of people to have personal family history discoveries quickly with just a few keystrokes. Indexing also fuels hints, a new feature on FamilySearch.org that makes finding records even easier by mapping indexed records against a person’s family tree and sharing high probability ancestral matches with them.

The web-based indexing program also has new built-in helps, plus a lab section that allows you to test upcoming product features and enhancements for the new program.

Great things to see and experience at RootsTech 2017 !

All genies around the globe are getting more excited than kids at Christmas, Roots Tech is getting near !

Meeting at the world capital of family history, thousands will gather to hear, talks,exchanges and discover around our common passion and motivation : genealogy ! I guess the best way to describe the experience is unbelievable !

There are :

– innovations shows where developers, IT people, social networkers and apps-mad crowd meet to build the family history products of tomorrow!

-Exhibitors Hall where companies and societies presents their services and more!

– Conferences, lectures and workshops : To learn from all kind of subjects ,from rookies know-how « I’d like to find my ancestors but haven’t got a clue » to very detailed points or subjects such as dutch, french, belgian 😉 , naval, army, soldiers ancestors and the set of records attached to each of the categories and much more!

This being the U.S. , there are studies and societies for every State and every community. A special attention this year will be to African Heritage with a special dedicated day (and the highlight of it, LeVar Burton, renowned actor from Star Trek, coming to share his genealogical experience and how you too can take part in this great journey!)

-There will be shows as well! I was quite and pleasantly surprised to discover that side of Roots Tech, last time I heard Choirs, popular singers and folkloric band, that was just awesome! My favorite show was a small one,in comparison to shows taking place in the big hall, it was a cow boy dance! Apart from one demo at the belgian national day one year, I had never seen one and  there you go, I was 5 years old again!

There are lots of great things to do, think of and discover at Roots Tech! It »s one of those shows where you leave with a better knowledge, new research paths or thoughts and yes too, feel a better person ! So I can’t wait to renew my RT experience again and meet old and new friends!

The 2015 Ommegang

In 1549 , Charles V, presented his son to the joyous AND boisterous people of Brussels. Philip II made his « Joyeuse Entrée » in the city. This ceremony had a double goal : For the new leader to present himself and for the people of Brussels, and most notably the high classes, to recognize the new sovereign power in other words to promise they will obey and remain calm 😉

In rememberance of this major event for the city, the public is invited to witness a reenactment of the event. Horses, flag throwers, jugglers and most importantly, a cortege of descendants of the nine »nations » of the city make their way to the Grand Place, enlightened by a light and sound show.  The cortege first leaves the Royal Park where free events are organised for the Grand Place where paying guests can witness a magnificient show!

This year’s Ommegang will take place tonight and on the 2d of July in a new car-freed center of Brussels. Just like each year, there are special guests invited to explain the whole story  and do a bit of a  « who’s who  » for the audience (This year Brussels-based writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Humorist Bert Kruismans and singer Jo Lemaire)

Besides those animations in the Park and on the Grand Place, there are cooking events organised with famous belgian chefs, visits of the Coudenberg old palace ruins in the context of the Carolus V festival, a balloon christening and much much more for the whole family so be sure not to miss this event if you’re in town! Ancestors in Europe ?

Don’t panic ! I’ll be at table 78 at Who Do You Think you are?Live! 2013 and you can always drop by to say hello and talk about your research !

I also plan to give hints and ideas as to where to search either belgian,french or dutch ancestors on this very blog in the coming months as well as how to trace british,welsh,irish and scots on the continent !
