It’s today the commemoration of the battle of the Golden Spurs also know as The Battle of Courtrai where in 1302 troops of Flemish soldiers defeated the French soldiers of Philippe IV (allied with troops from Brabant and Hainault) . This event is since known as a symbol reference for the Dutch-Speaking movement and was mainly used for nationalism/romantism reasons in the 19th and 20th century. More recently, it has been an occasion for the dutch-speaking culture of the country to show his best side with cultural events, music concerts on the Grote Markt ( Grand Place) of Brussels and a lot of nice and family events!
